Great Films That I Want To Watch In 2008

January 1st, 2008 Posted in: films

As some of you know I love films! I have been doing some digging into what films are going to be released in 2008 and have fished out the ones that I can’t wait to see and I have explained why. Feel free to make your comments and add your thoughts.

The movies included in this review included synopsis, dates and any other info I could find on the film at the time. I plan to update the information as and when it is released, so feel free to keep me updated. Ok here they are:

Cloverfield

Release Date: 18th January 2008

Director: Matt Reeves (The Pallbearer, Felicity)
Writer: Drew Goddard (Lost, Alias, Angel, Buffy)
Cast: Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, T.J. Miller, and Michael Stahl-David

Details/synopsis: This movie has been a closely guarded project from birth, the trailer has revealed some aspects of the film that have got people talking. It seems that New York City has been over run by some kind of monster and the story follows a group of collage aged friends using the medium of first person perspective.

Why I want to see it?

I am really looking forward to this film for one simple reason, I love lost! And anything written by the creators of lost has to be worth a look.

Rambo (Rambo 4/Rambo 2008)

Release Date: 22nd February 2008

Director: Sylvester Stallone
Writer: Sylvester Stallone
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Mathew Marsden, Graham Mctavish, Reynaldo Gallegos, Jake La Botz, Tim Kang, Ken Howard

Details:

In Thailand, John Rambo (Stallone) assembles a group of mercenaries and leads them up the Salween River to a Burmese village where a group of Christian aid workers allegedly went missing.

Why I want to see it?

The rambo films were not the best films in the world but as long as you see them for what they are you can enjoy them! I can’t wait for the violence and one liners!

Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull

Release date: 22nd May 2008

Release Date: May 22nd 2008
Director: Steven Spielberg (Raiders, Jaws, Jurrasic park, every great film from your childhood and your childrens childhood).

Details/Synopsis:

The forth installment of the indy films is directed by Steven Spielberg and written by George Lucus. Harrison Ford plays Indianna Jones again accompanied by Karren Allen as Marrion. New members of the cast include Kate Blanchett as the bad girl. This installment has been hailed as the new Jewell in the crown for Indiana Jones and I can’t wait to see it.

Why I want to see it?

I was an 80’s child and was brought  up with films like Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters, this is a great chance to revisit my youth and enjoy a modern classic.

The Incredible Hulk

Release Date: June 13th 2008
Director: Louis Leterrier (Transporter, Unleashed)
Writer: Edward Norton
Cast: Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, Tim Blake Nelson

Details/synopsis:

Edward Norton stars as Bruce Banner, in a non-sequel sequel to Ang Lee’s The Hulk (thank god). The Incredible Hulk is on the run, and the action is more intense in Edward Norton’s screenplay.

Why I want to see it?

The adaptation by Ang Lee (The Hulk) was quite frankly crap. I was bitterly dissapointed with it and want this latest film to give me the film I want - lot’s of Hulk action without the bore.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Release Date: July 11th 2008
Director: Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth)
Cast: Ron Pearlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Jeffrey Tambor, Luke Goss

Details/synopsis:

The mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth, so Hellboy and his team must save the world from the rebellious creatures.

Why I want to see it?

I liked the first Hell Boy film but expected more, the story line for the second installment sounds exciting and I can’t wait to see it.

Batman : The Dark Knight

Release Date: July 18th 2008
Director: Christopher Nolan
Writer: David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins) and Jonathan Nolan (Memento, The Prestige)
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Cillian Murphy, Michael Caine, Anthony Michael Hall, Aaron Eckhart

Details/synopsis:

Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham’s new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker’s crimes grow more and more deadly.

Why I want to see it?

Well where do I start, this is one of my absolute must see films of the year. I thought the first film (Batman Begins) was great and am hoping for more of the same this time. They have removed the weak link in Katie Holmes and I think this film will be something special.

James Bond 22

Release Date: November 7th 2008
Director: Marc Forster (Stranger Than Fiction, Finding Neverland, The Kite Runner)
Writer: Robert Wade and Paul Haggis (Casino Royale)
Cast: Daniel Craig, Goran Visnjic, Judi Dench, Giancarlo Giannini, Jesper Christensen

Details/synopsis:

Daniel Craig returns as 007 in a film that continues 2 minutes after the last one finished with Bond catching up with Mr.White from the first film. Details are a little sketchy on the overall story line, so watch this space.

Why I want to see it?

It’s James Bond, I love it! I felt that the last film was a refreshing change but I hope this film has some more gedgets (and that he drives his car for more than a minute - I love the aston martin).

Harry Potter and the half blood prince

Release Date: November 21st 2008
Director: David Yates (Order of the Phoenix)
Writer: Steve Kloves (Wonder Boys, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone)
Cast: Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Jim Broadbent, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton

Details/synopsis:

As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort’s dark past.

Why I want to see it?

It’s very sad that I want to see this film, but I have gotten into a loop that I can’t excape! I made the mistake of watching the first film and reading the books and the result is I will have to watch this film. That said the other films where actually quite good and their is no reason the latest installment should be any different. If it is half as good as the book we will be in a for a real treat.

Well that’s about it for today, I am sure there will be more but these were the ones that I could think of off the top of my head.
